A balanced take on convert zeal in the American Church is Fr Joseph Honeycutt's, "One Flew Over the Onion Dome" (Ancient Faith). I know that hearing about his journey to the Holy Faith 🇺🇲 ☦️⛪ was a great help to me in understanding the 'exaggerations' and temptations for former evangel-prots. Lord, have mercy on us. Please pray for Translators! 🌐🕯️📿🕊️

We all resemble enter with a foreign mentality to orthodoxy, but certain attitudes must be, at the proper time, pointed out as not conforming to the mind of Christ. It’s not the layperson though that I feel it compulsory to call out, only a couple American convert priests who try to establish as orthodoxy a modern fundamentalist Protestant brand of biblical interpretation or who treat tradition as if it is a ossified set of rules or another belief system / worldview and not a mindset awoken by the life of the Holy Spirit abiding in the Church.

Yeah I definitely think this plays a factor as well. Especially because the priests who do produce sound spiritual content that would help people often get overlooked for the ones who prioritize polemics and controversy. Promoting them more would help, at least to some extent.

I have been Orthodox for almost two years now.

It is funny to hear inquirers asking about obscure stuff like the Nephilim at coffee hour and the church picnic.

There are a lot of inquirers and catechumens who are analogous to “cage stage” Calvinists. I was like that as a catechumen.

Multiple times then and since I have asked my priest a question about something I’ve heard on a podcast or online (such as baptizing the Protestant convert). He always says, “We will follow what our bishop says.”

After two rounds of catechism I asked my priest, “What do I do now?”

He responded, “Just live the life of the Church. You will look at everything differently, especially sin, just 3 months from now.”

He was right. It isn’t about knowing more. It’s about praxis more.

After being received I deleted all my old tweets. They just seemed so stupid in retrospect.
